Yamat Lengai

Yamat Lengai is the Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Adaptation Officer at Tanzania People & Wildlife (TPW). Prior to joining the team in October 2016, Yamat received her bachelor’s degree in information and communication technology and worked as a volunteer for a small farmers’ network. A native of Loibor Soit, Tanzania, Yamat measures the organization’s programmatic outcomes and impact. She collaborates on program evaluations by assisting with the design of survey tools and questionnaires, conducting qualitative interviews with beneficiaries and other stakeholders, and coding responses for analysis. Yamat also oversees various data collection efforts including human-wildlife conflict events, community game scout patrols, and honey harvests. She also manages TPW's Living Wall database and assists the Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Adaptation team with all Maa language translations. Over the years she has gained proficiency in ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Operations Dashboards, SMART, and Cybertracker.

Yamat has been featured in WildAid’s Conservation’s Unsung Heroes series, spoken on a panel about lion conservation for WildAid in Dar es Salaam, and provided education on the beauty and ecological importance of Tarangire National Park and its surrounding lands through film. She was named a Conservation Nation Fellow in 2022, made possible by funding from Catmosphere.org, a foundation dedicated to raising awareness for crucial work in Big Cat conservation. Yamat is excited about helping her home district and strongly supports women’s cooperatives and girls’ education.
