Laly Lichtenfeld Nominated for the 2025 Indianapolis Prize
We’re proud to announce that our CEO and Co-Founder, Dr. Laly Lichtenfeld, has been officially nominated for the 2025 Indianapolis Prize, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize” of animal conservation. This prestigious award recognizes individuals making significant contributions to the preservation of endangered species around the world.
Laly’s nomination is a testament to her decades of work in Tanzania, where she has led efforts to protect lions and restore their populations through a holistic, community-based conservation approach. The nomination reflects the combined efforts of African People & Wildlife’s dedicated team, partner communities, and supporters who have worked tirelessly to ensure a future for wildlife.
The Indianapolis Prize, awarded biennially, is one of the highest honors in conservation. Out of 44 nominees, six finalists will be selected in the spring of 2025, and the winner will be announced later that year. In response to the nomination, Laly shared her thoughts on Instagram:
This recognition truly belongs to the incredible team and our partner communities, whose dedication and resilience makes everything possible. It’s humbling to be named among so many inspiring conservationists, and I’m moved by the incredible work being done in ecosystems across the globe. While I celebrate this milestone, I also think of the countless individuals working tirelessly to protect wildlife and natural spaces, many of whom are yet to be recognized. Thank you to everyone who has supported our journey—we’re excited to keep pushing forward!
