I’m filled with gratitude for your continued support and inspired by the elephant-sized steps we’ve taken since 2005.

Dr. Laly Lichtenfeld, Co-founder and CEO

In the stunning expanses where our work unfolds, each journey begins with a single step filled with hope. Whether hiking in the bush or joining the team in the field, walking on the land rejuvenates my spirit and reinforces my commitment to our mission at African People & Wildlife.

Our team, too, takes countless steps, from Warriors for Wildlife heading out to protect big cats, to beekeepers caring for their hives, to education officers leading students through the natural wonders surrounding the Noloholo Environmental Center. Each stride signifies progress toward our goals.

In 2023, our continued focus on coexistence led to remarkable advancements in addressing conflicts with elephants and other species around Ngorongoro. Through community-driven conservation initiatives like Warriors for Wildlife, we laid the groundwork for effective conflict mitigation and prevention.

In Mkomazi and Mikumi, our partnership with the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) flourished, fostering new approaches to rangeland management and the regions’ wildlife challenges. There are many more accomplishments that I’m incredibly proud of, and I hope you enjoy catching up with us in this report.

While the pace and scope of our conservation efforts continue to increase, I’m also reminded of the power of slowing down to reflect and recharge. I gathered the entire program team at Noloholo in November to celebrate our achievements, acknowledge our challenges, and set ambitious goals for the years ahead. It’s clear we’re on the right path, fueled by optimism, electric energy, and a deep appreciation for the moments spent resting our feet and connecting over a cup of tea or around the campfire.

I’m filled with gratitude for your continued support and inspired by the elephant-sized steps we’ve taken since 2005. Together, we will continue to chart new paths toward a better future for the landscapes, people, and wildlife that have left tracks on our hearts.
