Conservation Enterprise and Marketing Officer
Catherine Nchimbi is the Conservation Enterprise and Marketing Officer at Tanzania People and Wildlife (TPW). A native of Morogoro, Tanzania—a small town that is home to the famous Uluguru Mountains, Mikumi National Park, Selous Game Reserve, Great Ruaha River, and many waterfalls—she grew up surrounded by nature. Catherine has always been passionate about making a difference within communities, especially for women. After earning her bachelor’s degree in health systems management from Mzumbe University in 2013, she began her journey in community work by volunteering for a youth program in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She subsequently worked with an organization on a solid waste management project aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change while providing economic opportunities to local citizens—the majority being women. Her passion for the environment and women’s issues led her to TPW, where she focuses on empowering women in rural areas through the Women’s Beekeeping Initiative. This work provides women with entrepreneurial skills and opportunities that benefit the environment while generating a source of income, allowing women to contribute to their family’s finances and giving them a voice in decision-making. Catherine is also responsible for the marketing of all environmentally friendly products created by the women and promoting the community-owned Oldonyo Nape Campsite in the village of Loibor Siret. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in project planning and management.
