Our Human-Wild Connection

African People & Wildlife's COVID-19 Response

Our Human-Wild Connection

In light of the global challenges brought by COVID-19, our connection to the natural world—and to each other—has never been more clear. While it is believed that COVID-19 was caused by the illegal wildlife trade, this type of animal-borne disease is also closely tied to humanity’s destruction of the environment.

As a global leader in community-driven conservation, African People & Wildlife has an essential role to play in ensuring the health of our planet and in strengthening the bonds between people and nature.

As we continue to carry out our life-changing work in northern Tanzania, a primary concern is the health of our staff, our fellow community members, and our partners. While COVID-19 does not appear to be widespread in Tanzania at this time, we are taking the following precautions:

  • We are monitoring the occurrence of COVID-19 in Tanzania on a daily basis as well as the associated Tanzanian government protocols and announcements.
  • We are not permitting any non-essential travel by our staff and field team members.
  • We are postponing large gatherings and events, including youth national park trips, retreats, workshops, and community meetings.
  • We are educating communities about best practices to increase local safety and preparedness.
  •

Now more than ever, we need to come together in support of each other and in the protection of our Earth. We want to connect with you, provide some respite to those who must remain at home, and find out how we can best keep you updated from the field. Our team would love to hear your thoughts and words of encouragement.

Throughout these challenging times, we remain steadfast in our commitment to Africa’s people and wildlife. Thank you for all you do to help create a world in balance.
