Professor Stuart Pimm

Professor Stuart Pimm is a world-renowned conservation biologist and the Doris Duke Professor of Conservation Ecology at Duke University, as well as an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He is widely recognized for his pioneering research on biodiversity, extinction, and habitat restoration, with over 350 scientific publications and five books to his name.

Pimm has played a leading role in conservation efforts across Africa, contributing to transboundary species protection and local strategies to reduce human-wildlife conflict. He serves as a key advisor on national biodiversity policies and has worked closely with organizations such as National Geographic’s Big Cats Initiative.

Through his nonprofit, Saving Nature, he directs resources to local conservation groups in biodiversity hotspots, including Tanzania, helping to restore critical wildlife corridors and empower communities. His accolades include the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement and the International Cosmos Prize, honoring his lifelong commitment to preserving global biodiversity.
