Lisa Volgenau is a conservation biologist, environmental philanthropist, and advocate for collaborative, science-based conservation. She serves as Vice President, Secretary, and founding Board Member of The Volgenau Foundation (TVF), a family-led philanthropic organization focused on environmental protection, education, and the arts.
Volgenau’s conservation interests span marine and terrestrial ecosystems, with funded initiatives including eelgrass restoration, oyster reef development, and migratory bird habitat protection. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Virginia Tech and an M.S. in Marine-Estuarine Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Maryland. Her early career included scientific research with NOAA and other environmental agencies.
She is active in several funder networks, including the Biodiversity Funders Group and Chesapeake Bay Funders Network, and participates directly in field projects on wolves, corals, panthers, and whales. Volgenau continues to advance environmental stewardship through strategic philanthropy and hands-on engagement.
